Name the product, not just the category

“Architectural shingle” describes a category. Ask for the manufacturer, product line, color, and the compatible components proposed for the roof.

Look under the shingles

The deck, underlayment, flashing, roof edges, and penetrations all need a defined scope. Clarify how existing materials will be removed and concealed damage addressed.

Discuss ventilation as a system

Intake and exhaust arrangements need to suit the building. Adding vents without considering the existing assembly is not the same as a ventilation plan.

Compare the written installation scope

Fastening, applicable local requirements, cleanup, and warranty terms should be part of the discussion. A square-foot price does not explain these details on its own.

Make it specific to your home.

This is general planning information, not a diagnosis, quotation, insurance determination, or promise of product performance. A property-specific assessment and written scope are the next steps.
